Student almost doesn’t get job after identity mix-up

18 year old Winston-Salem State University student Brittany Tenae McNeil was a recent near victim of identity mix-up. Brittany started working at a Target store about a month ago, but was called off after ChoicePoint reported she had a misdemeanor larceny charge and a trespassing charge.

It turns out that there is another Brittany McNeil in Guilford County. And their birthdays are only 1 day apart. Even more amazingly, their SSN are only 2 digits apart.

Brittany disputed the ChoicePoint background check report, but was told the dispute could take 30 days to investigate.

All ended well for Brittany. Target called her a few days later and made it clear that she could come back and be a part of the team.
