Another reason why conducting inferior background checks or none at all create huge risks for employers. Yet I still run across some employers who think they don’t need to screen employees. Then there are those who think a eight or ten dollar database check is sufficient. Well tell that to the jury!

The company denies it was negligent in hiring and supervising Staples and the defendants say they exercised reasonable care to ensure the plaintiff was reasonably safe within the store, the document states.The defendants have made a cross-claim, suing Staples for any costs associated with the current lawsuit.
Staples has described himself in court as a “monster” who was wired wrong sexually since his adolescence.
“I know that I’ve been wired wrong, specifically sexually, since I was very young,” he said in court on Dec. 21. “I’ve always been sexually screwed up.”
He testified his attack was an attempt at “satisfying lust” and fulfilling a “twisted obsession” of controlling someone sexually.
Kelcey’s hired Staples in April 2004, three months after he moved to Peterborough on parole for a life sentence for second-degree murder, parole documents state.
When he was 18, Staples beat his 38-year-old roommate to death after she wouldn’t have sex with him, the documents state.
William Kelcey told The Examiner on Dec. 1, 2005 he had no idea he had hired a convicted killer.
