Man Sues Bank For Failing To Exercise Reasonable Hiring Supervision
A Wagoner man has sued to recover $165,000 in certificates of deposit that were embezzled by a bank employee.
A lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Muskogee on behalf of Richard L. Wilkes alleges, among other things, that Arvest Bank was negligent by failing to exercise reasonable care in the selection, hiring supervision and control of its officers and employees.
Former Arvest Bank branch officer Rhonda Harris pleaded guilty March 6th to federal counts of embezzlement by a bank officer or employee and money laundering. She was accused of stealing more than $5.5 million from the accounts of more than 90 customers over a 5-year period.
In the case of bank employees, it is recommended that the background check include a search of the Federal District Courts that would catch any past issued with embezzlement.
