Checks find 1,000 felons in nursing homes
Newly required criminal background checks have identified nearly 1,000 convicted felons living in Illinois nursing homes, and state officials expect that number will go up once all the checks are finished.
The state previously had no idea how many ex-cons lived in Illinois’ long-term care facilities or whether these people posed a threat to other residents.

Whether a person is a convicted felon or not should not have anything to do with them getting convolescent care when it is needed. I have a brother who is a convicted felon, unable to care for himself and does not have a family who can care for him. Also he never committed the crime that he was convicted of. He only pleaded guilty because the police intimidated him into thinking that he could go to prison for life! He had spent over a year in the county jail and was tired of being inther. so he pleaded guilty because in one month he could be free. It’s a long story but because we were poor and did not have money to fight it he went to prison for a total of one month. Now his health is failing and he needs good nursing home care and can’t get it because of a felon he never committed. He is a “marshmallow”. A real sweetheart and would do no harm to no one. Why isn’t there help for him???

It’s about time we stop the damn witch hunts in this country! I can understand worrying about sexual predators in certain facilities, but not all felonies should be troublesome to nursing homes. My husband is discriminated against constantly because he made the mistake 16 years ago and had a gun in his car. But oooooooooooooooooooh it’s a felony!
