Who’s responsability is it to make sure that your temp workers don’t have criminal pasts? Many temp agencies screen the employees that they send to clients worksites, some do not. Make sure that any temp agency that you use pre-screens their employees. Ask them exactly what types of checks they perform and when was the last time they screened the employee. You may be surprised at the answers.
If your company requires background checks on it employees do not hesitate to ask the temporary agency to require them for theirs. If you still do not feel confident it may be worth asking the agency to have the prospective employee sign a release so that you may conduct a background check on them. After all what good does your screening and security policy do if it is only going to be compromised by others?
