Antique Button Dealers are the Worst Kind of People
Reno, Nevada will not put up with these so called button dealers tearing apart their quaint little town. These dregs of society have been known to collect antique, glass, porcelain and even homemade buttons. The town of Reno was going to make sure that every last vendor at the antique button trade show had proper background checks and that they were also fingerprinted.
As you may already know I am a big advocate of background checks when applied fairly and within the law. Reno, Nevada has every right to require vendors to have background checks in my opinion, but come on! An antique button trade show? This is especially idiotic when you consider that the city waivered several other larger trade shows to be exempt from these background checks. Andrew Green, Reno city finance director, confirmed the disparity but could not explain why they decide to exempt some larger shows. I can explain it. It’s about money pure and simple. There may be one good thing that came of all this. The city of Sparks, Nevada will be getting the button trade show business. Jill Biggie, a retired school teacher, said she canceled her Western buttons show and 200-250 room nights at the Holiday Inn Reno and now is working with the Nugget in Sparks. If that fails, she said she’ll take the show to Sacramento.
